USE OF A SOLUTION TO DEACTIVATE ENDOTOXINS

The invention relates to an acqueous solution with a pH value above 10 which is used at a high temperature to deactivate endotoxins in medical instruments and equipment. Especially good results are obtained at exposure temperatures above 60 DEG C and at exposure times between 5 and 60 minutes, wherein the acqueous solution should have a pH value above 12. Particularly suitable solutions contain alkali carbonates, alkali phosphates, alkali silicates and/or alkali hydroxides as alkalizing substances. Preferably, the treatment in hemodialysis equipment is carried out in alternation with a disinfection treatment.
