The invention relates to a high voltage circuit breaker with arcing contacts (7, 9) which can be actuated in an opposite direction. According to the invention, the reversing mechanism is configured as a lever mechanism with a two-armed control lever (10). Said reversing mechanism is coupled to the actuated insulating nozzle by means of a drive rod (27), said insulating nozzle surrounding the arcing contacts. One end of the control lever (10) is forked. A pin (28) engages in this end, said pin being fixed to the control rod (27). The other end of the control lever is linked to the head (13) of the second arcing contact (7) by means of an oscillating element (pin (11)/oblong hole (12) or a connecting rod). The second arcing contact is actuated in an opposite direction.
