Porous metallic product especially for light metal alloy impregnation

Porous metallic product consists of a metallic skeleton in which property-modifying particles are (preferably almost uniformly) dispersed or alloyed. Preferably, the skeleton-forming metal is selected from Ni, Fe, Cu and alloys which include these metals or matrices of these metals and the particles are selected from metals (especially Cr) and ceramics (especially SiC, SiO2, Al2O3, TiO2, Si3N4, AlN or TiN). Also claimed is production of the above product by applying a slurry of a mixture of skeleton-forming metal particles and property-modifying particles onto a combustible porous foam containing open pores and burning the foam to leave a metallic skeleton which is then sintered.
