Fabrication process of integrated optical circuits to minimise optical coupling losses

The method uses at least two waveguides (3,7) of different structures and coupled adjoining ends has the waveguides made independently with their own masks, shaped so that the coupled ends of the waveguides can be extended laterally for the emerging waves. The masks used for shaping the waveguides have ends which correspond to the shape of the extended coupled guides, e.g. in the shape of cones (14,16) with straight or curved generating surfaces.
