Monitoring installation for an atmosphere generating apparatus

The monitor (16) for an atmosphere generation unit (10) has a measurers (32,34) to measure a parameter representing the actual operation of the process, coupled to a system that processes the parameter data. The processing system has a memory (44) storing values of the parameter measured over time. The time derivative of each parameter value is computed (46). An actuator (48) triggers an intervention in the atmosphere generation unit in response to the value of the derivative before parameter values exceed predetermined critical levels. The derivative data is processed to determine the nature of the intervention required.
