Method and device for controlling the travelling speed of a vehicle

The cruise control method is used for maintaining a required cruise velocity, with limitation of the variation in the vehicle velocity during the velocity regulation. The velocity variation limitation is lifted, or increased to a higher limit in dependence on the position of a switch operated by the drive e.g. for selecting the ride mode. The variation limits are returned to their original values when the switch is returned to its initial position, e.g. when switching back from sports mode to comfort mode.
