The anti-theft device has a radio receiver (11) on board the vehicle, receiving a coded radio signal provided by a regional transmission network, coupled to a control circuit (15). This provides a signal (16) for opening and closing at least one on board current circuit (20,23,24) in dependence on the received radio signal, for activating a theft alarm signal and/or bringing the vehicle to a stand-still. The radio signal receiver and the control circuit are contained within separate units, mounted in different positions within the vehicle.
