The electrochemical cell with a zinc powder-containing anode gel and an alkaline electrolyte is separated by manganese dioxide-containing cathode material. The cathode material contains added alkaline electrolyte in the solid state. The method involves (a) mixing MnO2 particles with a highly dispersed carbonaceous material and a polymeric binder and then compacting and granulating; (b) adding solid alkaline electrolyte particles during or after step (a) and pressing the mixture to an annular electrode; (c) filling with anode gel separated by a separator; (d) adding aqueous electrolyte; and (e) closing the resulting cell with a cover fitted with a current output conductor and acting as an electrode terminal. |
