[Also in Division C5] A skin lotion comprises an inert solvent having incorporated therein a water-soluble surface active agent and a water-soluble partially degraded protein having a gel strength of zero Bloom grams. Suitably the lotion is in the form of an oil-in-water emulsion. Suitably the partially degraded protein is an enzymatic hydrolysis product or a heat degraded product such as a protopeptone, other peptones, polypeptides, proteoses or "solubilized collagen''. The surface active agent can be a cationic, anionic, non-ionic or ampholytic detergent or a soap. The lotion suitably contains lanolin, a preservative, a colouring material and a fatty acid. The lotion protects the skin e.g. the hands, against chapping and irritation.</p> |
