PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alcohol, enabling to reduce the amount of an alcohol raw material left in the alcohol in a non-reacted state, the amount of a wax ester as a reaction intermediate and the amounts of hydrocarbons as by-products and improve the yield of the alcohol in excellent reactivity and selectivity even in a case of a low reaction pressure. SOLUTION: This method for producing an alcohol comprises continuously passing an alcohol raw material in a hydrogenation reactor and catalytically hydrogenating the raw material with hydrogen gas in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst. Therein, the improvements comprises controlling the temperature in the hydrogenation reactor to a higher temperature than the dew point of the produced alcohol and bringing the alcohol raw material into contact with the hydrogen gas in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst wherein one or more kinds of substances selected from the group consisting of the alcohol raw material, the alcohol, wax esters and hydrocarbons exist on the surfaces of the catalyst or in the pores of the catalyst in liquid states. |
