PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate shortage of running motor output during driving in a low output mode with the increasing of power consumption amount being suppressed to the minimum without requiring driver's operation in an electric vehicle which is capable of switching to a high output mode and the low output mode. SOLUTION: This electric car is provided with an output switching means 26 which conducts switching between a high output mode and a low output mode by the operation of a mode selection switch S6 , whereas an output increasing means 29 increases the output of the running motor 1 if real acceleration calculated by an actual acceleration calculating means 27 becomes lower than required acceleration calculated by a required acceleration calculating means 28 at a prescribed rate due to shortage of the output of a running motor 1 during driving in the low output mode. At this time, the output of the running motor 1 which is controlled so as to increase is limited so as not to exceed an output in the high output mode.
