摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge power failure by shifting power source frequency forcibly and detecting abnormal frequency if power failure occurs in a power balancing condition between a power running car and a regenerative car. SOLUTION: This power failure detector for AC electric car controls a power source side converter 8 so as to generate a difference between reactive power at its power running and that at its regenerative operation in case of power failure in control means 25, 26. If a power source 1 is under power failure with one of two electric cars 4, 5 connected to the same stringing 3 in a power running mode and the other in a regenerative mode, the electric car in a power running mode tries to take in regenerative energy from the electric car in a regenerative mode in case of power failure, however, a difference exists between the reactive power of the power running mode and that of the regenerative energy. It is thus possible to discriminate power failure by detecting some failure in power source frequency.
