PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a hue shift, ink adhesion and a defective pattern from occurring by forming multiple print areas for a color image by discharging color ink droplets with extra high resolution while a print head is operated in every direction across a printing medium and arranging the printing areas in a partially-staggered condition. SOLUTION: A carriage assembly moves left 16 while discharging ink 18 in some cases and moves right 17 while discharging ink 19 in other cases. A precisely-layered coding strip 33 is arrange along the scanning route of the carriage assembly 20, the contents of which are read by an automatic electro- optical sensor 37, position and speed information 37B is sent to a microprocessor 15 (flows from left to right except for information 37B from a sensor). Thus the coding strip 33 can form very high accuracy color ink droplets while the carriage assembly 20 scan from left to right or from right to left. |
