PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an exhaust brake or a third brake to be effectively applied by shifting down during braking when a vehicle travels at high speed. SOLUTION: In a vehicular transmission provided with at least an exhaust brake of an engine and a third brake, a means 34 for controlling the gear change operation of a vehicle through an actuator in response to a demand for gear change, and a means 11 for judging a specified braking condition to be established and automatically controlling the shifting down to an optimum gear change level which corresponds to the car speed so that the braking force of the exhaust brake or the third brake is increased when the car speed detected by a car speed sensor 21 is above a specified value, and an accelerator detected by an accelerator opening sensor 28 is released to no load state, in a state where a switch 32 for selecting the operations of the exhaust brake or the third brake is turned on, and a switch 31 for selecting automatic control of shifting down is turned on, are provided. |
