PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate oil and water with a high volume efficiency and high filtering quantity by feeding liquid into a hollow fiber membrane module arranging a hydrophobic porous hollow fiber membrane having specific sizes in average pore size and outer diameter and allowing an oil component in water-containing oil to selectively infiltrate through the film surface. SOLUTION: The water-containing] oil in an oil tank is fed from a water-containing oil intake port 7 into a water concentrating tank 9 with a water-containing oil replenishing pump 8, and stored. The water-containing oil in the tank 9 is fed to a water-containing oil inlet 4 of the porous hollow fiber membrane module 10 opened the hydrophobic porous hollow fiber membrane having <=1μm average pore size and <=3mm outer diameter in a housing 2 at a U-shaped potting part 3 and fixed, with a circulation pump 11. The oil component in the water-containing oil is selectively transmitted from the outer wall surface side of the hydrophobic porous hollow fiber membrane into the inside wall surface side with a hydrophobic mutual work, and the oil component infiltrated through the membrane surface is fed to a back-flowing liquid tank 12. Also the oil-containing water concentrated the water contents in the hollow fiber membrane module 10 is returned from an water-containing oil outlet 5 provided on the hollow fiber membrane module 10 to the water concentrating tank 9.
