摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the liquid crystal display device which can display an image with high quality by eliminating vertical and horizontal inversion, eliminating a phase difference corresponding to a field angle, and effectively preventing the coloration of a liquid crystal screen which is caused, specially, as field angle increases. SOLUTION: Relating to the liquid crystal display device having at least one of optical phase difference plates 2 and 3 which have negative refractive index anisotropy (na =nc >nb ) and has the direction of a main refractive index nb parallel to the normal of the surface and the direction of a main refractive index na or nc in the surface slanted clockwise or counterclockwise on the direction of the main refractive index na or nc in the surface as an axis between a liquid crystal display element formed by charging a liquid crystal layer 8 between a couple of electrode substrates 6 and 7 and a couple of polarizers 4 and 5 arranged on both its sides, variation in the refractive anisotropy Δn of the liquid crystal material of the liquid crystal layer 8 with the wavelength of light is set within a range wherein the coloration of the liquid crystal screen depending upon the field angle is not generated and the liquid crystal layer 8 is divided at a different rate and oriented to different directions.
