PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a plastic optical fiber exhibiting better transmission characteristics. SOLUTION: In this method for producing a plastic optical fiber consisting of a clad layer and two or more core layers, each formed by polymerization of a resin molding material, the resin molding material comprises one or more types of monomers, a chain transfer agent and polymerization initiator, and the concentration of each of the chain transfer agent and polymerization initiator is changed within a range of 0.001 to 1mol% based on the total quantity of the monomer(s) and adjusted in such a way as to set the difference between the glass transition temperature (Tg ) of the layer having the highest Tg level and that of the layer having the lowest Tg level at 5 to 50 deg.C, preferably 5 to 30 deg.C.
