PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the dispersion and the retention of the copper fibers in a friction material by preventing the copper fibers from being segregated. SOLUTION: This friction material contains a granulated body of the fiber base material formed by binding 50-80vol.% of curled or twisted copper fibers of 1-10mm length and 5-30vol.% of novoloid fiber with 10-30vol.% of phenolic resin, a resin binder of a phenolic resin and a filler as a friction regulator. Since granulated body of novoroid whisker fiber is used as the copper fiber, other materials are well tangled with them thereby preventing the copper fiber from being segregated. As a result, its dispersion and retention are also improved to reduce noise (strange sounds) caused by projection or dropping off of the copper fiber. |
