PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the liquid crystal display device with a wide visual field which has liquid crystal orientation divided in one pixel by devising the structure of a substrate surface without contaminating an orientation film surface. SOLUTION: Each pixel 11 on one or both substrates 4 is provided with a projection or recessed structure, or a saw-tooth structure 1. When a voltage is applied, the direction where liquid crystal rises is determined by an angle determined by the structure of the substrate surface. Consequently, the liquid crystal display device is obtained which has areas where orientation directions are different at the time of voltage application, compensates visual characteristics mutually among the respective areas, and has a wide visual field. |
