The base carrier (1) tapers upwards to the neck (2) of the vase. An upper sleeve (3) fits over the neck (2), but is held up by a concentric spring (4). When the user presses a foot pedal (6), a rod (5) pulls the sleeve downwards, compressing the spring. The upper parts of the blooms can then spread out. Other methods of increasing the neck diameter of the vase are given in the application.
