<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the purity of an inert gas for the welding of titanium, titanium alloy, stainless steel, etc., in the inert gas. SOLUTION: Helium gas introduced through an inlet port 26 into a space 8 is passed through a hole 5 into a reaction tube 7 containing granular titanium 11 heated and activated with a heater 9. The impurities such as oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen in the helium gas passing through the gap between the titanium granules 11 are removed by reacting with titanium 11. The purified helium gas is dedusted with a dust-removing filter 13, cooled with a water-cooler 23 and discharged through an outlet port 16. An inert gas having high purity can be produced with a simple apparatus.</p> |
