PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map displaying device which is capable of displaying information on a route and the next intersection in an easily visible form and map displaying method therefor. SOLUTION: When a navigation device starts to guide a route, the device displays a map in the vicinity of the present location on a monitor based on the latitude/longitude data of the present location acquired by a GPS part and displays a route and the present vehicle location based on data from a preliminarily inputted start point to a goal point (step A1 to A3). The route and a route outside area except this route are detected (step A5). On this route outside area detected, the next intersection magnified map is displayed by a prescribed initial size (step A9). Further, whether a distance up to the intersection becomes a prescribed value or below (100m or below, for instance) or not is discriminated (step A12). When the distance becomes the prescribed value or below, the intersection magnified map is displayed on the route outside area by a maximum size (step A6). |
