Intersomatic cage for the fusion of two adjacent osseous zones, e.g. of vertebrae or joint bones, comprises a hollow cylindrical threaded body (12) of a biocompatible material, having anterior (12-a) and posterior (12-b) sections. It has a lateral surface (16) forming a cylindrical inner chamber with apertures (34) in its wall and an external thread (14). The anterior section (12-a) of the body has at least one temporary coupling (22) for a screw driver, while the posterior section (12-b) has a transverse aperture of sufficient diameter for the screw driver to be inserted through it and engage with the anterior section coupling. The coupling (22) is in a solid wall covering the anterior end of the cage, and the aperture in the posterior section has the same diameter as the inner cylindrical chamber. Preferably the biocompatible material from which the cage is made is a synthetic plastic, especially polyethylene, or a composition or multilayered material having at least one layer of a synthetic plastic.
