PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To preserve required video data while accelerating seek speed concerning a device for recording and reproducing the video data of plural channels. SOLUTION: Concerning the recording area of 1st data storage device divided into four blocks 1, 2, 3 and 4, for example, in the logical address direction, it is controlled by a system controller so as to record video data (A, B, C and D) successively compressed on the time base of four channels in time division manner for the unit of a prescribed data group (4 fields) (mark square) and to reproduce these recorded video data in time division manner and by performing addressing so as to return a recording head only at both terminals (inner and outer peripheries) of block in case of data write and read, the seek time of recording/reproducing head can be most shortened. Besides, required data (markΔ, for example), in recorded video data are read out to a buffer for preservation at the timing of reproduction and preserved in a 2nd storage device or recorded in the divided preservation areas of 1st storage device.
