PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a stable high-density magnetic recording and reproducing over a long period of time by interposing a metal magnetic film between non-magnetic substrates and providing non-magnetic conductive films having a thickness in a specified range on both side surfaces of the metal magnetic film. SOLUTION: When a magnetic head is abraded by a tape for a long period of time, non- magnetic conductive films 3, adhered to edges of a magnetic film 1 serving as a magnetic head, are worn to a slightly larger extent as compared to the magnetic film 1, thus realizing a desirable contacting condition between the tape and the head. A thickness of each of the non-magnetic conductive films 3 is set to be 2μm at minimum or more so as to maintain the desirable tape contacting condition over a long period of tape-running. On the other hand, if the non-magnetic conductive films 3 are too thick, these films 3 are excessively worn to lose advantages obtainable by providing them, and therefore, the thickness of each of the films 3 is set to be a half of a track width or less. On these non-magnetic conductive films 3, the magnetic film 1 is formed so as to have a thickness corresponding to the track width which is determined in view of an azimuth amount. A constituting material of the non-magnetic conductive films 3 is selected so that a direction of a magnetic path in the vicinity of a head gap 5 substantially coincides with a direction of a magnetization difficulty axis.
