Disclosed is a damping device for a leg prosthesis, comprising a tubular casing consisting of an outer sleeve (5) with a bottom (7) on one end and another open end, and an inner sleeve (6) which can slide backwards and forwards in an axial direction. A pressure spring (12) is arranged on the inside between both sleeves. Both sleeves can move between an expanded position and a retracted position. The pressure spring (12) is chosen in such a way that it exhibits a pre-determined initial tension even in an expanded position.
