The invention concerns a method for making a building element such as a beam consisting of one or two wooden chord(s) and a core embedded in at least a longitudinal recess of said chord. The method is characterised in that at least one chord is obtained (1) by being sawed right through to the kernel, mechanically recessed up to the proximity of the kernel from one of its longitudinal surfaces, so as to dry said chord (1) without cracks and with controlled deformations, and another larger longitudinal recessing (3) of a different shape is machined after drying, from the recessed longitudinal surface of said chord (1), for embedding the core (2).
