Wooden bobbin blanks are first impregnated with a polypropylent glycol maleate-phthalate polyester modified with styrene or a -methyl styrene under reduced pressure, are then treated with polymerized diallyl diester dissolved in monomeric diallyl diester, and are finally heated to effect cross-linking of the modified polyester with the diallyl phthalate polymer. The modified polyester may be partially cured in the wood before treatment with the diallyl phthalate polymer except when the latter contains a small quantity of paraffin wax.
