PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric discharge lamp device, capable of reducing radio noise by inhibiting the generation of empty discharges from a high-voltage terminal inside a socket, in the state in which a discharge lamp is not disposed. SOLUTION: An electric discharge lamp device comprises a primary current generating circuit 2, a transformer 3 for boosting a primary current so as to generate a secondary voltage, a socket 4 provided with a high-voltage terminal 43 supplied with a secondary current from the transformer 3 and ground terminal 45, and an electric discharge lamp 5 having a mount 52 which includes an anode 53 and a cathode 54 working contact with the high-voltage terminal 43 and the ground terminal 45 and can be detachably attached to the socket 4. The socket 4 is provided with an empty discharge-preventing switch for connecting or disconnecting the primary current generating circuit 2, the switch being closed, when the mount 52 of the discharge lamp 5 is disposed and being opened, when the mount 52 is not disposed. |
