<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the communication efficiency of packet communication. SOLUTION: So-called 'solution based on credit' is used for flow control preferably in asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) traffic or in a switch 1 provided with input and output buffers (31 to 33 and 11 to 13). An extremely short time interval is used for the interval of requests for sending cells 51 from respective input ports 2 to 4 to output ports 5 to 7 through a switch core 8, the satisfication degree of the output buffers 11 to 13 is accurately monitored and calculation is executed in determining the number of cells allowed to be transmitted to respective output ports 5 to 7 within a succeeding time interval while considering the number of cells stored in the input buffers 31 to 33. Slightly excess allocation to respective output ports 5 to 7 is permitted.</p> |
