PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rear projection type display device constituted so that a ghost phenomenon is prevented from occurring. SOLUTION: The rear surface side of a screen 3 is provided with a light separation means 8, through which P polarized light is transmitted and on which S polarized light is reflected. A reflection means 7 is constituted of a 1/4 wavelength plate 71 and a total reflection mirror 72. A projection device 4 is arranged so that the video light of the S polarized light is emitted toward the rear surface side of the screen 3. Then, when an angle formed by the screen 3 and the reflection means 7 is defined asθand an incident angle obtained in the case that the video light reflected on the reflection means 7 is made incident on the screen 3 on a side, where the reflection means and the screen 3 cross with a vertical line Y to the screen 3 as a boundary is defined as (i), the relation of (i) >=90 deg.-2θis satisfied.
