The rear light assembly for a vehicle includes provision to illuminate the boot area of the vehicle whilst also providing external light. The assembly (5) comprises a lamp carrying plate (6) attached to a part (2, 2', 3, 3') of the bodywork of the vehicle, the carrying plate forming the back wall of the lamp fitting. The rear lamp fitting is then attached to this plate within a reflector and casing which directs the majority of the light out to the rear of the vehicle. The carrying plate also includes at least one aperture (16) allowing light from the unit to enter the boot of the vehicle (11). This aperture may be covered by a transparent plate. The supply to the lamps within the unit is provided by a circuit formed on the carrying plate itself. |
