摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sludge interface measuring instrument that can measure the interface of sludge with accuracy without receiving any influence from the chromatically of a liquid nor produced bubbles at the time of measuring the interface of sludge in a sludge tank. SOLUTION: A CCD camera 4 and a light projector 5 are suspended with a suspending member 7 from an elevator 6 set on the top face of a tank 1. A neural network judges whether or not a picture taking point is in a sludge phase or supernatant phase based on the lightness/picture element number histogram in a picture taken at a certain depth. When it is judged that the picture taking point is in the sludge phase, the camera 4 is moved upward by a prescribed distance and the same judgement is made on the picture taken at the depth. Until the judged result indicates the supernatant phase, the judgement is repeated by raising the picture taking point little by little.
