The heater, designed to recuperate heat from an outlet flue, consists of at least one reservoir (11) for a heat carrying agent, e.g. water, has at least one channel (23) connecting an inlet (6) and an outlet (7) and lying parallel to their axes. The axial channel (23) is of variable diameter, having a curved portion (27) of greater diameter at its inlet end, and the reservoir (11) can be located inside an outer envelope (2) which also carries the smoke between the inlet and outlet ends, is joined to the reservoir by supports (12), and has inlet (21) and outlet (22) pipes for the heat carrying agent passing through it.
