The invention concerns a method which consists in moving a heating zone (22) and a detection zone (23) at the surface (1a) of a part (1) so as to scan the surface (1a) and in detecting a flux radiated in the detection zone (23) using a line of detectors (21) selected in a matrix of detectors (20). The method in particular enables to reduce the time for scanning the surface (1a) of the part and to adjust the offset, in the moving direction (24), between the heating zone (22) and the detection zone (23), by simply selecting the line (21) of the matrix of detectors (20). In particular the method and device is useful for carrying out the thermographic inspection of metal parts which may have considerable dimensions and complex shapes.
