PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a high separation rate by detecting a center pixel or all pixels of an attentional two dimension area as the dot area, based on a relation between number of pole pixels of the two dimensional area under notice and number of pole pixels of surrounding two dimension areas. SOLUTION: A pole detection section 2 that applies a matrix, consisting of predetermined M×M pixels to each pixel of a digital multi-gradation input image from an input image signal section 1 sequentially detect whether or not the center pixel of the matrix corresponds to a pole of the density change, based on a relation of the density of the surrounding pixels. A dot area detection section 3 divides an image, so as to discriminate whether or not a center pixel of a block under notice or all the pixels in the block belong to a dot area. An area discrimination signal output section 4 outputs a discrimination signal that denotes each pixel belong to the dot area or a line drawing area, based on the result of detection by the dot area detection section 3. |
