Steam cracking furnace with a radiation zone (1) with tubes (5) circulating a mixture of hydrocarbons and steam, connected downstream to means (4, 10) of indirectly quenching the cracking effluent, located outside the radiation zone of the furnace and in turn connected downstream to means (30) of directly quenching the cracking effluent. The indirect means include an air exchanger (10) at atmospheric pressure, and a water exchanger (4) under pressure, placed in series. The furnace also includes means (22, 23) of controlling the amount of cooling in the air exchanger.
