A process for treating compostable materials using a mixer, comprises placing the material in the mixer after mixing, and then removal to allow it to rot. Part of the compostable material is heated before it is placed in the mixer, so that the temperature in the mixer is 20-30 deg C. The compostable material is preferably sewage sludge.
