A method of controlling the operation of a host processor of a host processing system to which data frames from a communication network are transferred via an interface device. The method comprises monitoring an incoming data frame to determine the length of the frame from a frame header; and generating an interrupt request to the host processor of the host processing system to cause the host processor to process the data frame, at a time during the passage of the data frame into the interface device determined in accordance with a predetermined algorithm based at least on the length of the frame. <IMAGE>
