The present invention provides synthetic amyloid, i.e., a synthetic analog of naturally occurring amyloid, which includes a synthetic aggregate of one or more synthetic or naturally occurring peptides. Preferably, the aggregate possesses a fibrillar morphology. This synthetic material can serve as a template for deposition of A beta peptide and/or active fragments/modifications thereof.
