A bleached pulp is produced by a process in which an unbleached pulp prepared from a wood material is treated in an aqueous acid solution under a pressure generated by an oxygen and/or nitrogen containing gas, and the acid-treated pulp is subjected to a single or multi-stage bleaching procedure.
