A vehicle includes a load deck 5 vertically movable relative to the vehicle chassis by means of lifting means between a ground engaging position and an elevated position, the lifting means for the load bed preferably being a winch 6 and cables 9, 15, 16 and the vehicle is preferably a trailer. The cables may pass over pullies 8, 17, 18 and be secured to anchorages 21, 22 on the load deck, preferably there are several pullies and anchorages each side of a transverse line through the centre of gravity of the load deck. The chassis may comprise a U shaped frame 1, the rear of the frame being open. Two pullies 17, 18 may be provided on each of two side frames 2, 3, each guiding a cable 15, 16 to an anchorage 21, 22 on the load deck. The winch may be supported on a cross member 4 of the frame. The winch may turn a pulley 8 on the cross member which in turn rotates a pair of shafts 11 and further pullies 14. Alternatively the winch may raise and lower a movable anchor block (24 fig 2) with a lift pulley (23 fig 2), which anchor block in turn moves the cables attached to the load deck via pullies (25 fig 2). The winch may be manually operated or motor driven. |
