The closure unit for charging openings of shaft furnaces incorporates a material entry funnel (2) with and entry pipe (3), a rotating chute carrier (4) with a drive (6), a pivotable chute (5) in the furnace space with an external drive (13), and sealing devices between rotating and fixed elements. In the unit: a) the rotating chute carrier (4) with a toothed ring (7) attached to the flange (4. 1) is mounted on a ball bearing system (15); b) rotation of the chute carrier takes place by means of an electric motor (6) with a pinion (8); c) pivoting of the chute (5) relative to the furnace axis takes place by means of a hydraulic or electromechanical device outsider the furnace space; d) the sealing devices take the form of annular seals (14.1, 14.2).
