A fuel pump comprises a high pressure pump, a low pressure pump (18) and an intermediate pump arrangement arranged to receive fuel from the low pressure pump (18) and to deliver fuel to the high pressure pump, the intermediate pump arrangement operating in a timed relationship with the high pressure pump.
