Tobacco treatment

Provided is a method for removing polypeptides from an aqueous extract of tobacco material. The method comprises the steps of treating the extract with an insoluble adsorbent selected from hydroxyapatite or a fuller's earth mineral such as bentonite. The extract is then separated from the adsorbent. Treatment of the aqueous extract with bentonite will produce an extract having a reduced pigment and polypeptide content.
