The male rail (2) is fixed to the seat structure and runs on ball bearings in the female rail (1) which is fixed to the vehicle floor. The male is formed as a channel section, with its lips (22) turned up, interlocking with the female whose lips (12) are turned down. Anti=friction ball races may be interposed between the flanges of the male and female rails. The segment (3) has a flat plate (31) with square teeth (32) which ride in slots (25) in the male and engage in slots (14) in the lips of the female. The flat plate is held to the bridge piece (4) by the spring loaded plunger assembly (5), which normally projects through the male channel and causes the teeth of the male to engage those of the female, preventing any sliding between the two. The lever (61) is held to the upper surface (29) by the brackets (62) and is moved by rotation of the rod (63) to push the plunger downwards and free the teeth from the female's slots and allow the seat to slide.
