<p>The apparatus has a cannula (12) equipped with a curved and hollow support tube (16) of a semi-rigid plastic, designed to be inserted into the patient's mouth over the tongue and as far as the bottom of the throat, and an intubation tube (14) which is inserted into the trachea to provide artificial respiration. It incorporates a base plate (22) which is connected to the cannula and has a central aperture (26) which communicates with the inner channel of the tube (16), and clips (28, 30) for attaching the intubation tube to at least one side of the base plate. The cannula and base plate are made in the form of two separate components joined together by a hollow plug (24) which projects from the underside of the base plate and fits into an aperture (20) in a connecting piece (18) on the upper end of the cannula. The plug (24) is made from a plastic of greater rigidity than the cannula support tube, while the latter can have an upper rigid and a lower supple section, made by a bi-moulding process.</p> |
