A mounting apparatus for affixing objects such as remote controls, cordless telephones, trays, mugs, etc. to upholstered furniture is shown and described. The apparatus includes a mounting plate which bears a fastening device for releasably fastening the object to the mounting plate, such as hook-and-loop fastening material. The mounting plate is releasably affixed to the upholstered furniture by use of at least one elongated mounting pin which is insertable into the mounting plate and the upholstered furniture. In order to prevent the mounting plate from being inadvertently pulled from the upholstered furniture when the object is being pulled from the mounting plate, the mounting pin(s) preferably has a nonlinear longitudinal axis, e.g., has a helical or kinked longitudinal axis. The mounting plate is preferably formed of thin flexible material, transparent material, and/or material having coloration similar to the upholstered furniture so that the mounting plate does not stand out in appearance when affixed to the furniture. |
