摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the irregular reflection of light to occur in the pat of which a metallic layer is formed, to control brightness characteristic, and to obtain a new external appearance by forming an undercoat layer, to be subjected to physical vapor deposition of metallic coating layer, in such a way that the average space and average height of ruggedness of the undercoat layer take values in specific ranges, respectively. SOLUTION: Surface roughening is applied to an undercoat layer 3 by grinding the desired region by the use of an abrasive such as sandpaper. At this time, grinding is performed in such a way that the average value Sm of spaces S and average value Ry of heights R of the ruggedness resultant from surface roughening satisfy Ry>Sm and Ry<=5&mu;. Subsequently, a metallic coating layer 5 is formed on the undercoat layer 3 after surface roughening as above by means, e.g. of vacuum vapor deposition of metal such as Al. The thickness of the metallic coating layer 5 to be formed is regulated to such an extend that the raggedness part of the undercoat layer 3 can remain and reflect light. In this state, when the thickness of the metallic coating layer 5 is large a metallic color reduced in its brightness characteristic can be produced, and on the other hand, when it is small the undercoat layer 3 can be seen through the thin metallic coating layer 5 and, as a result, various color tones reduced in brightness characteristic can be produced.
