PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce acrylic acid from acrolein by gas-phase oxidation of acrolein in the absence of oxygen in molecular state by passing a gaseous mixture of acrolein and water vapor over a specific mixed solid oxide composition. SOLUTION: This production of acrylic acid comprises passing a gaseous mixture of acrolein and water vapor over a mixed solid oxide composition of formula Mo12 Va Srb Wc Cud Sie Ox (a is 2-14; b is 0.1-6; c is 0-12; d is 0-6; e is 0-15; x is number of O combined with other elements) in the absence of oxygen molecules at temperature of 200-500 deg.C under pressure of 1.01×10<4> to 1.01-10<6> Pa for residence time of 0.01-90sec to carry out a redox reaction. By the above- mentioned redox reaction the activity of the above-mentioned composition lost by reduction can be recovered by oxidation with oxygen, thus allowing recycle of the composition. |
